I thought that I would start this tread with a little about me. I joined the CMF in 1971 at 17yo in the medical Corps, and then went full time in 1975, RAAMC, I served in Singleton,NSW @8camp hospital and 1mil in Brisbane, and 2mil Sydney! I was discharged in 1977 due to injuries while serving! I trained as a Chef and after qualifying in early 75, joined the RAA the same year! After discharge, I did odd jobs till I started Nursing in 1979, In 82 I had 2 op's on my spine which retired me from Nursing as well! I worked with my Uncle as a Builder/plumber for a few years , I did Bible Collage in Townsville in 92 and then odd cooking jobs, till I started a Disability Hostel in Toowoomba Qld, I sold the business in 07 and have been semi retired till today! That was the Quick Version..LOL So now you all know a bit more about me

@gaz - had my ACL reconstruction done at 1 Mil in the 90's. It was quite funny watching the medical staff fix people and the PTI's breaking them again.

I only used one once.....and I think I scared everyone around me cos I was a skinny kid with arms like spaghetti and I couldn't keep it level while I was firing it! Thank you TM, it was an F1 - bugger, I just showed my age

@. kenna - there was a tiny girl on our sister intake flight (think she was going into Comms Op)) - and they had to put a sandbag behind her feet so she could qualify in the prone position. Otherwise she'd have to crawl forward after every couple of shots because she kept getting knocked back down the mound.

Hey - it was only.... umm.... 23 years ago?
Oh bugger, I am getting old.
Yeah, she qualified. Back then a girl would have to really frik up to fail something or not qualify. The'd just keep bending things till they could qualify, hence the sandbag. (Because if they didn't, the girls knew to turn on the waterworks and say the boys were harassing them, and then things would get bigger than the Spanish Inquisition).

It's a shame (and I hate to admit it) but a lot of the girls who enlisted got away with doing a minimum. I noticed that most of the girls in my intake at recruit camp were wearing runners for the last week (except for pass out parade)- only two of us wore our GP's/AB & gaitors all the way through (just like the guys)....does that make us tough? LOL (Mind you I came home with a blister that covered my entire heel). Females didn't have to carry packs and rifles for the annual BFT's and quite a few didn't make it within the time but they weren't turfed out. I ran like a rabbit, worked hard, got dirty and had my share of fisticuffs with "tools". I wanted to be a gunner and was told that when I could carry a 5.5 shell by myself without sinking to my knees they would let me be a gun number (they lied!). I did my time on the gun maintenance roster and I nearly wet myself with excitement when I was permitted to pull the lanyard on a live firing exercise (I was CP sig and was in the right place, at the right time).

Joined as a chocco in early 2010, combat engineer. Nothing too interesting, talisman sabre was a bit of fun I guess.
This year being sent up to Darwin, no prizes for guessing.
