Hi, my name is Eve and I am a student. I study the subject Society and Culture. As a part of this I have to carry out first hand research on a topic of my choice. This is called a Personal Interest Project (PIP) and is worth 40% of my end course mark. My chosen topic is Doomsday Preppers and a part of the requirements is that I carry out my own first hand research. As a person with her own interest in prepping, I want to discover the reasons which why others are also interested. I want to find out more about other Preppers, what they are preparing for, why they are preparing and whether technology such as the internet is used as an aid or a hindrance. I would appreciate if you could take my short, 15 minute questionnaire to help me with my research. All answers are completely anonymous: www.surveymonkey.com/s/3JXSDNJThankyou in advance for completing my questionnaire!

Hi Eve.
Your topic "Doomsday preppers" may be lost in this site - we purposefully keep this wording at a distance, and having seen a few seasons of the show D.P's, we sure don't fit that bill. We deliberately avoid the word "Prepper", as it has seriously negative connotations. This is why we call this a Preparedness site.
If you flick through the site you will see that this is a Preparedness site. Preparedness is much like having an insurance policy for contents, car' life, etc. We look at it as "expecting the best, but preparing for the worst".
There is no room here for conspiracy theorists, anti govt bickering, Big Brother is watching you, etc. This is a site for normal ( well, as normal as we can be ) people who look at the world and society as a whole, and don't like what they see. As you look through the site you will see a lot of normal people sharing their skills and experiences with us.
When this site started, as admin, we had very clear goals on what this site's goals were, and where we wanted to take this forum. We also had very strong views on what topics/people we did NOT want here. Thankfully we have pretty much kept straight the course.
If researching 'normal' preparedness is your goal, then this is the place for you - we may even convince you to join and participate in the myriad of conversations found within.
I appreciate that you will keep anonimity for those who wish to take your survey, and will leave it to the members if they feel comfortable responding.
If you have any further q's please feel free to contact me or any of the admin team.
PS - I just did the survey, and have no probs with it.

I gave the survey a go and it did not seem weighted to get an unbalanced perspective.

I gave the survey a go and it did not seem weighted to get an unbalanced perspective. Likewise - it was a very standard survey. Not too bad.

Agreed - both to Jay's first reply and to the nature of the survey.

As a person with her own interest in prepping, I want to discover the reasons which why others are also interested. Join the forum and ask questions. Plenty of helpful people on here. I get that there's certain information you need for your schooling, though explore your interest and if you're a 'poor student' as many are, then you can always start with practicing/skills/knowledge which is in some ways trumps 'stuff'. Done the survey.

Be a little careful of media people that may join so they can get info and make headlines about what preppers might be doing.....I had to tell a reporter who was very insistent that it would make a good human interest story to post a story about preppers in the community, that prepping is strictly a secret matter for each individual, otherwise should the SHTF you would be searched out as a community resource. I did the survey to help out.
