hey Guys and Gals,
Have a little query for everyone. A local firearms dealer has a pile of crates of milsurp 303 ammo (768 rounds) for $300 each, all dry and unopened. Now these same fellos also sell Highland 303 Ammo for $21 per 20, which is by FAR the cheapest available in Perth.... by something like $15 a box of 20!!
What I am asking is do you think it would be better (from a prepping perspective) to buy the milsurp rounds (which come in at a cool $0.39 each) and just toss the brass (Berdan primed) OR pay over 2.5 times the amount for something that can be reloaded?
It seemed like a no brainer to me, get the reloadable. But realistically, even in a SHTF scenario, how much am i going to shoot? I already have 3 of these crates, 1 for shooting now and the other 2 wrapped in glad wrap with a large silicone pack to remove moisture. That is already nearly 1600 rounds in storage and even buying one of these every 6 months for storage will give me that again every year. I dont intend on fighting a war with my little sporterised 303 so I am finding it more and more difficult to justify to myself the time and money involved in reloading, which if I am completely honest is only a few cents cheaper than buying the milsurp IF I cast my own projectiles.
HOWEVER there is the flipside that if everything does go to shit, having the ability to reload AND the equipment could be seen, both to myself and others, as an important skill.
I hope this makes sense, I have been mulling it for a few days now and more just needed somewhere to lay it out and hopefully get some educated viewpoints (or uneducated, im easy).
Thanks!
