www.piteba.com/index.htmlVery rare that I rave about things. But I love this press, it's fantastic, buy one! No connection to company Only made sun flower oil so far, yield is only about 80-90mls per kg but gosh its cool. Has filled a real niche for me, the ability to produce vegetable oil has always been a concern this resolves it. I'm sure there are others out there, but this one is the first solid and reasonably priced one I've come across and I love it

I agree with you [as I ought to because of your profession] and in terms of prepping oils being an important macro nutrient for humans as well as necessary cooking ingredient that stores poorly [it seems that ghee is the longest lasting btw] and resupply would be essential and tricky with what's easy, that is growing plants. What do you do with the left over pulp, I would imagine that with the oils extracted it would still be useful as a protein meal of some description?

Just made peanut butter with the peanut oil left overs !! Had to put 1/3 of the oil back as was to well extracted!!
I just put the sunflower residue on the compost - but the website states can be used as stock feed and depending on what you press some of the residue paste could go in a soup.

A car jack and some metal pipe with holes drilled in makes a decent press. Use wooden or metal baffles with layers of seed/olive pulp between inside the pipe, wedge the loaded pipe and jack between two strurdy braces (or a specific built frame) and then start pumping the jack pressure up bit by bit until fluids start getting squished out. The fluids can be left to separate and the oil decanted off.
