Good thread Aussie_scout. How do you find the Pathfinder gear?
Nothing fancy here, a couple of different gas cookers, simple billy, trangia type pot and mess tins.

For years I used a Trangia and metho But after seeing my mates using Jetboils I now use one of them. Trouble with the Jetboils is though that they are high-tech and you are dependent on a supply of gas bottles and if you fly somewhere you can't take them so have to buy some locally when you land. So I may go back to the Trangia or one of the other simple stoves that just need a few sticks. PS: No rude comments about my attire right? It's cold up in them thar mountains.

I really like the pathfinder gear , their canteen (except the lid ) , cup and stove base are all stainless steel . So you can boil water directly over the fire with both the canteen and cup , and the heavy cover lid for the cup is good to put over the top for cooking and faster water boiling as it keeps the heat in rather then losing much of it with an open cup . Plus it all nestles in together rather well .

You can use both alcohol or wood , sticks , leaves etc in them so finding fuel for them is pretty easy ... basically whatever is on the ground in the bush that will burn lol .

Yep, that's the sort of thing I have in mind. Out of the two I own ( Vargo titanium and the emberlit titanium ) ... My preference would be the Emberlit as it is larger so can take bigger sticks etc and with better ventaliation .

Thanks, I have looked at the Emberlit before, I'm still a few months away from getting back into bushwalking so will put getting one of these on my todo list.
In the past my requirements were slightly different because I was "bushwalking" for recreational purposes. Now my focus is more "bugging out" which while similar is also different. Not that I plan to bug out as we are nicely set up, but you should always have a plan B eh?
