Was thinking about this while walking around town the other day and thought I would post it up on here. Its pretty vague so feel free to fill in any blanks you want
Scenario: You're in the CBD of a town or city, on foot, just walking around on an average day. BANG! Instant disaster....could be zombies, riots, asteroids, military invasion or whatever you think, but its chaos and you are too far from home to leg it back straight away. You need to seek shelter somewhere for a day or maybe week....where would you go and why?
Some options could be; bank, supermarket, big department store, 7-11 type shop, servo, library, sporting goods store, church or ??

Hmm a good question to get us thinking. I guess it depends on what you have on you for your EDC. I don't think taking a "high value" target such as a department store/servo/sporting goods store would be a good idea. Unless you have a band of folks with you, there's no way you're going to hold it against people who band together. I think laying low is your best option, or banding together with other like minded people although it will be hard to find like minded people quickly. Somewhere secluded but secure, not sure what kind of location that might be off the top of my head but it's certainly worth some thought. Maybe a disabled toilet? You've got some access to water but would need to take some food in with you. Maybe a kitchenette in an office building with a lockable door and take in some heavy things to put behind the door. Will think more on it

I'd like more specifics as where I hide would depend on that, though going with what you've already mentioned, I would seek shelter in a location where I already have friends. In this case a place in the CBD where I know a few of the people and they have a kitchen [and bar lol] so I immediately have a knife, cooking pots, food. Depending on the time of day they might have security which would also could be useful. The allies would more than likely be of more importance in the first stages than supplies initially [again depending on the disaster], though water certainly would be a priority and would be quickly required. Lighting could be an issue as it's inside [though I have small torch and phone with me] and if I can get to my car, the BOB is there. Though as I do have an escape plan from the CBD and alternative transport [foot and fold up bike], I wouldn't be hanging around unless I had to.

I'd head for the outskirts of town first up - away from the threat. Any food stores etc would be dangerous to be around. I would either take to the railway track or back roads and head for the countryside/hills and only move at night. Getting home would be my No 1 priority. I would hope that I had my mini sawyer on me and my GHB but if not and I came across a small corner store id beg/borrow/buy nuts and easy to carry food to get me home. I would try and lay low in culverts/sidings/abandoned homes etc during the day and travel at night. I would not use a push bike etc. as this could make you an easy target. Under no circumstances would I stay in a city/town. Another thing to consider is do you live near the coastline? It would be hard going, but you could walk from beach to beach maybe having to scale rocky headlands etc and walk on the hard wet sand at night. These rocky headlands would hold good cover during the day. Hubby was away for a week and I said if SHTF don't. consider walking 500klms, pinch a surf life saving boat and come down the coast. He was with a group of friends that go away every year and those boats are pretty sturdy for sea rowing. You could sit off the coast and come ashore at a cove etc. at daybreak. This is why it is so important to 1) know your area out for a couple of hours drive 2) keep that GHB near you.

I would venture to my workplace if i was not working as it is has everything i need and is made from reinforced concrete and would make a good place to lay low as on the outside of it is very boring looking. It is familiar and i know the lay of the land around it.
