French President Francois Hollande showed the same stoicism he showed after Paris was so callously attacked last November, reaffirming his dedication to defeating terrorism at all costs.
“Terrorists struck Brussels but it was Europe that was targeted — and all the world that is concerned,” Hollande said.
“We are facing a global threat, which requires a global response. France and Belgium are linked by the horror we have shared.
“We are at war. We have been subjected for the last few months in Europe to acts of war.
“This war on terrorism needs to be carried out with cold blood."
Hollande also warned that “this war will be long”.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron chaired a COBRA meeting about the attacks which are reported to have killed at least 28 people. Vietnamese Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said the attack was an assault on democratic Europe, while the country’s foreign minister, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and British PM David Cameron tweeted their condolensces.
“It is an attack against democratic Europe. We will never accept that terrorists attack our open societies,” Lofven said in a statement.
