Just wondering if anyone here goes kayak fishing? If so, what are you using? Any tips?
I live within a fairly close distance to a number freshwater lakes, rivers and streams that seem to be ideal for fishing from a kayak so am toying with the idea of getting one. We used to do a fair bit of canoing when i was younger and grew up fishing in tinnies, but I don't really have the storage area for a boat (unless i build another shed) and don't currently have a boat license so a kayak may fit the bill in the mean time.

You will love it mate!!! Nothing like being able to go anywhere with the Kayak, from the ocean to a small stream or river. Make sure you get one with enough room for all your gear. They have built in compartments for extra's as well.

I've never fished from a kayak, but years ago I'd go paddling on my kayak with a surfboard towed behind me. On the surfboard was a couple of plastic tubs and some crab nets. Even though they were a bit muddy-tasting (it's the Canning River, after all) it was a free feed when I was a student.

Sounds similar to a guy who went fishing from a kayak on Port Phillip Bay, don't know if they ever found him

Yep and yep. Love it. Like most things...ive modified mine lol. It was a $450 eBay job. I removed the swivel rod holder and mounted a GoPro (knockoff) and a fishfinder. Under the centre hatch, theres a homemade alloy battery tray holding a 7.2a/h sealed battery. The rear hatch has a 12v and usb outlet as well as a small removable solar panel. And yes, i always wear a life jacket. Lots of fun.

I had a Prowler13 kitted up few years ago, seat, fish finder (still couldn't let the fish find my hooks though lol ) even had a trolling motor on it. Ended up getting rid of it as needed the cash and the missus was getting cranky that even with a kayak I still couldn't catch fish lol

Hi I'm a newbie today (thanks for the applause) I fish out of my kayak just about every week and I put crab pots in for muddies n sandies at the Gold Coast. I'd say go for it you won't be disappointed just make sure it's stable enough to move around like twisting bending over or reaching to other parts of the kayak. Mine cost $450 from gumtree & I modified it a bit so everything is reachable. I'd put a photo on here if I could work out how to do it, a little tip put most items on a paracord line because you will drop it overboard. Thanks
