Yes I agree Wayne! I am reading a book about a prepper family that was prepared for any event, but when an EMP hit, they had problems getting to there BOL because of cars and trucks on the road! They waited 2 weeks to leave, Neighbors started to get hungry and angry and looters/gangs had road blocks set up and they had to fight there way out each time! Personally if I was in a city I would leave ASAP before people got organized or realized what was happening! Some extra info on Bleach and Rosemary! www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/16-health-benefits-of-rosemary.htmlwww.cdc.gov/safewater/chlorination-faq.html

I think a few of these prepper blogs are starting to stretch and overcomplicate the process.
Would i go out of my way and simply stock rosemary? Probably not. If I had the desire to create a veggie patch and/or a aquaponics set up than I may indeed plant rosemary because of its properties.
The other calcium item? I know there are lots and lots of chemicals that can actually be used for different things, but I just feel that if you have all these chemicals around the it's difficult to remember what they all can be used for and may not be the safest option. Want clean water? I would stick with a filter.
A backup plan isn't really an item, but it may be overlooked. I think we all have difficulties crafting a plan at all, let alone a backup plan.
So whilst I may agree with what the article says, I think some articles are starting to stretch and complicate the process.

I do believe in BUP's, such as escape routes, BOL's, etc, and as for calcium hypochlorite...sieved and boiled water I would prefer (lived off it before, will do so again), and notice the storage warning....no thanks. Peace Nerd

I agree with the rosemary, its antibacterial as well as oregano! Didn't know about the radiation protection though! Agree Ryan on the bleach, those life straws seem like a good deal and if you have two you are set for a long time! Back up plans huh still working on the main plan! Haha

Rosemary and Cilantro - Iodine! Then maybe these for rads.
Calcium Hypochlorite - Love the stuff, 1kg makes 500,000 liters drinkable!
A Backup Plan - Isn't that what bug out locations and cache's are about?

i wonder if bleach tablets are suitable and what their lifespan is?
tumeric is also extremely beneficial to health, as are chilli and garlic, and all 3 are easily grown at home. oh cant forget ginger!
have to agree with back up plans though, but dont forget to be flexible, too many people get tied up with details, but frankly, anywhere off grid with access to water and wildlife is ideal imo. theres nothing saying it has to be your long term bol, and ppl are often so quick to forget that.

What about insurance? Lots of people under insure or worse still don't insure at all!!!! To me this is the most important and most likely used 'prep' you can have!

Didn't know that about Rosemary!! Very interesting! Calcium Hypochlorite for sure.....have a good supply. Other than this chemical for water I have a Lifesaver bottle for each member of the family plus two Lifesaver Jerries that should see us through 30 years of use. I know most on here have a lifestraw or something similar but have any of you heard of the lifesaver bottles? They filter down to .015 Microns where as they Lifestraw filters to .2 microns which leaves it susceptible to nasty Waterborne Virus'. Australia is not known for having disgusting bodies of water that have contagions in them like 3rd world countries of course but give it time. The way the foreigners are flooding in it's beginning to look more and more like a middle eastern or African country all the time. Cheers Wayno.
