As i have 3 kids, ill keep my thread running and just post updates here. I try to involve them in everything i do outside the regular 9 to 5. Here was one of our camping trips, just the young fella and i. A pretty quiet area with very little traffic. Practice with the .177 shooting cans at around 40m, scattered in different areas, even a few in the trees.

I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but I hope your son is at least 12 and has a junior shooters licence. Would hate to see you get in any trouble with the law . No and no. This area we camp regularly is quite isolated and all air riffle use was under strict supervision by myself. I know and understand the laws and any repercussions from my teaching him is on me. If you are uncomfortable with this thread, i will gladly remove it.

not uncomfortable at all. Good for you for teaching your children. I've had a rifle in my hands since I was 5, my children the same (which was before the draconian laws in 97). I bought my son a rifle for his 18th, another for his 21st. I didn't need to buy my daughter any, she had 2 automatic weapons in her room at 18 (an F88 & 89). She's a civi now so her brother and I will probably buy her a glock for Christmas. My only concern was do-gooders seeing this thread and reporting it. Thanks for the feedback frostbite. I understand where you were coming from and 110% agree and support your comments. I do feel that there is a responsible difference between illegal and illegal. If that makes sense. I also feel that we have a member base with enough common sense to diferentiate between the two.

Good to see you showing your kids firearm safety my dad had a double barrel shot gun.... I never had the guts to shoot it but he showed us how to handle it if we needed to use it.... Was always kept on top of the wardrobe with the cartidges in a box next to it for safety .... never loaded (just in case)

My cousin handed me an air rifle back in the days you could when I was about 8. Lots of fun had in the backyard, one of my neighbors joined me, the other knew and didn't mind, didn't bother a sole... then the laws changed and I lost my fun. Why kids below 12 or anyone who is properly supervised can't enjoy an air rifle is WELL beyond me.
Then we look at who actually did bad things with an air rifle... who shot at tourists in Tasmania with one LONG before using an illegally held SLR, and it's obvious, it's the character of the person that matters. Oh and he's responsible for fireworks being banned too. To think a nation held accountable for one person, though of course, firearms laws are not sensible.
