Good morning to everyone. Thankyou so much for this opportunity. I have been reading alot about preparing for the future. As I am in my 50's and I have been an employer, business owner in manufacturing for more than 20years I have witness first hand the gradual changes in society, generational attitudes, the climate, Australia's relationship with overseas countries it worries me alot. The changes are not in our favour. I am not in a habit of expressing my feelings, my fears over this issue in public as most discard it or avoid the topic.
I have 3 children who have embraced the new IT world and find it very easy to use and adapt. They think nothing of the issues computors have now produced. I manage to use it however my thoughts are they create more work than they are worth. Yes it has created more jobs, however it has also created more problems most layman can not sit down nut out and solve. Cyber bullying, hacking, fleecing credit cards, airing your dirty laundry on facebook when your angry and the realisation you can not take it back, the realeasing of virus on business and personal computors costing thousands sometimes millions of $ to overcome.
We rely on computors and technolgy too much. I am afraid no one will know how to survive if these luxuries are suddenly taken away or inaccessible.
I am keen to read on the thoughts of others and how they are preparing for the future. I have tried to teach my children to grow their own veges, collect their own water be more reliant on themselves than on coles or Woolworths. Learn to cook instead of takeaway. Sew their own cloths, preserving their fruit , drying their herbs and vegetables. Took them camping to show skills for survival, as I was brought up in Western Qld, for many years we did not have electricity, no access to supermarkets, no public transport, no TV they were horrified when I told them this. It was and still is a struggle for change for young adults including mine. I am still determined to be prepared.
