Yep we have grown them before a few years back just a small tree though! We have also bought them from store before, they are nice but really hard to peel and takes a while to get through the skin!! The sections are easy to break apart and they are like a very dry grapefruit although not as acidic. You expect this juicy fruit but it is really dry! Its really nice when cold.

Without googling it, can anyone name the four original citrus species?

I'll give you a hint...the orange and grapefruit aren't on the list.

Mandarin, lemon, kafir lime and Yuzu. That's my alcohol-fuelled guess for the night.

Mandarin, lemon, kafir lime and Yuzu. That's my alcohol-fuelled guess for the night. I like your style. Mandarin is correct. Pomelo is the second - thought that might be obvious from the thread. Common oranges and grapefruit are thought to be naturally occurring hybrids of Mandarins and Pomelo. Any other guesses regarding the other two?

Citron and Papeda were the other two.

Pomelos are nice, but make sure you don't eat any of the white pithy stuff (which is tart as hell). Many Chinese families leave pieces of pomelo skin in the fridge to soak up / replace bad odours too.
