We'd best keep this story under our hat. If the masses find out we'll have to move from 2% of stuff all to 2.5% of stuff all so people can again pretend we can defend ourselves against world super powers...

Not with those shitty F35 jets and the new subs still years off from being operational. And as mentioned, all the good stuff is based in the southern states, rather then from Townsville to Broom covering the most vulnerable part of the coastline, and only daily sweeps by the recon planes looking for people smugglers and illegal fishers.
They need to beef up NORFORCE and get them stationed on the outlying islands with permanent "listening stations" and stocked to act as FOB's Also we need to get a para regiment going again and speed up the 2RAR conversion to a amphibian group. There should also be a commando or SAS regiment based in Darwin instead of Sydney and Perth alone having no special forces in the middle.
And to top it all off, we need to massively beef up our defense force numbers, it should be at least twice the size it is now. Maybe bring back conscription for those physically able to for combat roles, and support roles for those not fit enough to be trained as front line troops.

Sad state of affairs. Although the story is fictional and paints a worse case scenario, it has been quite disappointing that the overwhelming consensus even amongst those more educated in the defence industry that Australia is not well prepared.  |
