Sure and we thrived. I'm proud of my convict heritage on both side of the family. I'm also very proud of my British history, part of one of the best cultures that have every been on earth. China's talking about being civilized, aka moral... *cough* I guess they think they're superior and are trying to shame, yet the test of immorality is hypocrisy ..... Tibet comes to mind specifically. There's been so many uncivilised acts that China have done, Mao of course killing tens of millions through starvation, though lets bring it to the last decade or so shall we... how about 1.5 million people killed just because they were meditating and stretching? - link Better the tears for the friendliest most civilized, most tollerant group in the world, that dragged aboriginals out of the literial stone age, introduced them to the ideas of property, the wheel and countless more things. In NZ the Maoris wiped out the original people in a genocide, fairly typical from most other nations. So yeah China 'get a dog up ya'

I'm actually in Aus now and not taking much notice of the Chinese news (not that I ever do). The only thing I can see is that while I was expecting a lot of tension out on the street after the SCS ruling the other week, it has apparently quietened down pretty quickly. Seems that the new internet generation are not so quick to believe all the shite the government fills the media with, and while there was a lot of chatter on social media, any protests have been small (so far). Apparently this publication, which usually only follows the government line, was reprimanded a few days ago due to going too far in their shrill cries for war.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens as time goes on. (The G20 meeting is being held in China this year, so it looks like the government wants to keep a lid on any protests etc, so that they can show a good face to the world's media and leaders. Dunno what happens after that is over on mid-September though)
