Could this be the spark that ignites the powder keg? With the US backing Japan and the Philippines in their respective disputes over Senkaku Island and the South China Sea it could get ugly fast.

Dunno if the Philippines wants the US's help though - not after what Duterte called Obama last week!
Then again, once China starts building an island on Scarborough Shoal (about 150km off the Philippines), I guess they will be begging the US for help again.
