I'd like to see a new board related to cybercrime, hacking and information security.
You can probably tell that it is a personal interest of mine. I don't know how much it is of interest to other people?
But it is very much a threat to modern society/civilization.
I believe it needs attention as much as something like pandemic - which has its own board.

I'll second that motion if you do much of the posting [and you have both the interest and knowledge] and keep us to date haha.

Agreed - both to creating the board, and to PlanZ contributing.

Identity theft increases a huge amount every year.
3 people are after you. The Gov for mass surveillance, Google, Faceplant, twitter, Yahoo and the likes for advertising and possibly future control, and hackers to rob you. Just the facts, take an inventory of what you do and make changes accordingly.

spatial Thank you for posting that web site, we don't have a lot of experience in Australia dealing with geomagnetic storms and I always assumed they caused the power grid electrical protection systems to operate and cause the outages. The idea of a potential difference being generated across the surface of the earth had never occurred to me and would naturally cause massive circulating currents on transmission lines, that are ground referenced normally at either end via transformer winding's.
This new information has me wondering if DC transmission lines are immune to geomagnetic storms since they would avoid a saturation of their transformers.

Not too sure about the geomagnetic storm being responsible for the blackouts -- seems a very convenient excuse for power failure in the US's three biggest cities, yet no other cities seem to have been affected. From what I was reading the geomagnetic storms weren't due to start until the weekend too, whereas the power blackouts were Friday morning.
Looking forward to the whole story, but get the feeling we won't be hearing much more about it.
