Ok so I just bought a bunch of spam. If I wasn't prepping I can tell you I would not be buying this stuff! I'm probably as much a fan of the canned stuff as the inbox version (ie not much!)
But maybe I'm being too harsh on this old classic.
Anyone want to re-educate me on the virtues of spam?
Got any good recipes or techniques for using spam - using only pantry ingredients of course?

We've had a few posts on spam. Personally I only have a little, I have much more of your 'meat' protein in beans, chicken and tuna. I don't care for it much so reeducation on it from me goes along the lines of eat it when you're starving to death, it'll taste great then.

well now good old spam it makes a great filler don't forget the tined Champaign ham as well though
Ok a couple of real quick and easy recipes for spam
Apoc eggs and bacon slice it real thin and quickly heat it up then serve it with powdered eggs for a simple bacon and eggs This can be made into egg and bacon rolls if you make some damper rolls
very special omelette dice the spam up into small squares then mix with tinned veggies and start heating in a small pan while this is happening mix up some powdered eggs and add a dash of curry powder to the egg mix and along with dissolved powdered milk proceed to make an omelette as per normal
Super special fried rice / noodles
For this you can use either rice or noodles depending on what you have dice spam like for an omelette mix with tined vegies make some powdered eggs into scrambled eggs mix the heated spam , tined veggies and scrambled eggs through your rice or noodles and add some sweet chili sauce or whatever sauce you prefer
last chance fry up crumb thick spam slices in bread crumb herb mix then deep fry in a pot of oil till golden brown serve with tined veggies and instant mashed potatoes
porkie rolls
cut spam into long lengths heat till warmed all the way through then mix up some roast gravy powder serve on damper just like a roast roll
spam was a gift when I was working in remote places and resupply was every 4 weeks and all the you had was what could fit on your vehicles

Yep small cubes and get a bit of crisp on the outside. I'll always have a soft spot for spam as I did a lot of 4wd camping growing up and we always had a few cans of spam on hand.
Probably not the most amazing recipe by any foodies standard but one of my favourites from my childhood camping trips that I've cooked up for the kids a few times and usually goes down well is:
500 grams pasta, can of spam, can of tomato soup & one onion... Just cube the spam and onions, fry 'em up then throw the soup in. Cook the pasta and throw it in too.
Always goes down well in fried rice. I really like the idea of the spam curry you posted remmy and will definitely try that one out! Anything you'd use ham in really. They're on half price at coles or wollies often enough and I always pick up plenty of cans when they are.
I like to pick at least one or two meals a week to either cook outside on the fire or purely from pantry foods. Would be crazy to have all this food and not know how to cook it or not be used to the flavours.

Even mixing diced spam with a can of baked beans is alright. Definitely not the meal to have if you have to get going in a hurry.

I just cut it into slices and fry it. Hadn't done some for maybe 30 years until recently and I find I still like it.

STANDARD Spam...... Not any of the less sodium, less this, more that, exciting new flavor bla, bla, bla types.... Well chilled so it goes through the meat slicer as thin as possible. Fried crisp. Even coated with egg and bread crumb then fried is good.
Thick sliced with alternate slices of onion and pineapple then baked... Now you got me thinking.. And hungry...
Sweetie home canned homemade spam.. I would have to look up the recipe and procedure in the note book, but it pressure canned and came out very well. Much better flavor than canned. Part of the success was she canned it in "fish jars" wide mouth half pints.
You are not supposed to can ground meat as liquid, bubbles etc can't rise through it, but with that small a jar and she made a hole in the center to the bottom of the jar with a wooden spoon before sealing the jars. It came out wonderful.
I'm sure baked in a small bread loaf pan to a 180-190F internal temp it would freeze OK.
