Having just aquired a new rifle in 308 I'm starting the process of aquiring reloading supplies to establish a good stash.
I've got a mix of hornady 55 grain Z-max and 55 grain soft points for the 223 but lately I have been questioning the viability of Z-max for zombies given they are a frangible round.
So, opinions please... Best zombie apocalypse projectile - Frangible balistic tip, soft point, hollow point or FMJ??

Whatever you can get quantity of?? I stick to 150 gr projectiles and premium for deer/ pig( woodleigh, corelok,,cutting edge etc) But for zombies I think quantity not quality is the key!!!

I have preference to soft points in my 30-06 as this does a good job at dropping most animals on the spot. In my 243, I get good results out of the V-max

Twist in my k98 is 1-14" I was thinking in the range of 120-150 grain. The federal premium 130 grain speer hollow point seemed to shoot really well out of it. I'm sticking with irons on this rifle and wont be looking to reach out that far.
As far as quantity over quality goes it seems I can get most styles of projectile in the 50-60c range. Berrys make a 150 grain copper plated round nose flat point I could land for 22c a proj but I'm thinking those would just be for plinking.
This batch of ammo is going to be specifically zombie apoc ammo so long term storage ready to go. Once I buy the ammo can, stripper clips, sundries for storage... The difference between 20c and 50c projectiles is rather insignifigant so effectivness is the goal here. Maybe I'm overthinking projectile choice, just want to make sure what I stash away will be effective.

Zombies.
Well my preference depends on what kind of zombies. If like most zombies it's about performing a head shot to stop them, then I'm using a .22, yep. It's got the penetration necessary to hit the rotting brain stem and I can carry tens of thousands of them with me, no issue.
If it's a ghoul kind of deal where I have to stop them by taking off a leg, arm or blowing out their spine then I would very much agree that .308 or similar full size .30 cal cartridge is a great choice, most likely one hit stopping. In terms of particulars, I've gone soft tip. I do like the idea of doing coated lead cast that can handle full velocity at 8c as opposed to 60c or so for the projectiles, though haven't got around to that, as Gasman would say, 'Its on the list'

I've found those 130gr in the federal to be extremely accurate out to 300m. I've also heard they go off like a hand grenade when they hit game. I read that they were even used to cull horses from helicopters. My local gun shop has them $143 per 100 factory loads... Maybe I'll just get a couple of those to start off the stash. They're not much more than reloads if I'm putting them away as you loose cases from the rotation anyway.

those federals are very good on medium sized game they are much better than the equivelant winchesters. they pack a bit more punch, but i'm not sure if its the projectile or powder. $1.43 per round is not too bad from the local GS.
to answer the question i'd go ballistic tip on zombies any day of the week. or maybe FMJ for mulitple penetration.

If you roll your own I would say Hornady Match BTHP 1 in 14in twist should stabilize it at 308 speed, or Sierra match king. Possibly not a good idea to hunt with but we are talking about head shots here haha. Used feed my Musgrave RSA with both and got sub 1/2 MOA groups. Even better, get a 1 in 7 twist barrel and shoot 220gr with a can (BTW, before anyone says that we shouldn't mention illegal stuff, I will point out that it is "technically" possible to get supressor in NSW for recreational shooting www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/file/0019/262009/PW_GR_Silencer_-_Feb_2016_V1.1.pdf , not that I know of anyone who has even been granted a permit, but it is on the form)
