Hi all, just wondering if anyone used steel drums like the 44 gal or otherwise for various storages, and what you use them for, and or if you have found better options?
I use good condition painted 44 gal drums with lids and locks at present for animal feed storage and lots of other stuff as well. They are water tight for leaving out in the open and very convenient. I can get them at times for $10 a piece.

They would have their uses for making storage rat proof and such compared to the palstic drums.

I've only got one on my property and I use it as a table for processing chickens.
They seem like they'd be a really good idea for storing sacks of things, not sure I'd be leaving them outside though I'm guessing they'd cook whatever is inside. Might be a good idea to pick up a couple to throw in a shed or container out of the sun.

i'd like to use them for food storage during mouse plagues. the little buggers chew through plastic like its butter.
$10each is a steal, or should that be steel. i'd like to get some at that price but freight charge would probably kill that idea.

Just make sure (if they're second hand) that they haven't previously contained something nasty.

Ive seen a prepper on a show fitting them out with a thick plastic liner and storing rice and or grains in them as well.
