Hi all, thought id throw up a couple of pics of some chicks which have hatched last couple through two broody hens i have. The girls sat well and hatched their chicks out and are now about keeping them warm, protected and learning how to scratch and feed. This is a cross between my 2nd gen meat broiler birds crossed with my 3rd gen rooster of choice. I have a 48 egg incubator full of eggs soon to hatch for the brooder box as well and another incubator filling up quickly ready for incubating also. Hoping this season of breeding is going to yeild some good weights up to 16 weeks. Have to wait and see though. Enjoy!

I had 7 pekin bantams in a flock a few years ago and they were wonderful birds. Lost all 7 in one night when a very cunning fox managed to find a way in.
We had araucanas but the roosters were far too aggressive and would attack everyone; me, the wife, guests, kids... johovas witnesses (I usually like talking to them but it was worth a laugh) so they ended up in the pot.
We've had australorpes for about 2 years now and are yet to have any go broody.
What's your setup like mate? got them free ranging? have a run? how many chooks to square meters?

Yep, weve had some fierce roosters for sure, attack everything lol. They are the ones which you bunch up to take on the foxes lol. As for setup. This lot are at the urban home in the coop i built. Heaps of room, got 3 pekin duck grow outs in there atm with them as well. Just removed rooster, so only 4 hens atm with 3 ducks and the chicks. The pics you see is in the roosting and nesting area corner. I have another small coop wit 4 eggs layers and a run off, which are the smaller of the 3rd gen birds but full on layers so keeping them around. I also have another large coop with a large open area at the block im selling with a heap of rooster and hen grow outs, plus my 2nd gen birds and 3 gen roosters. I will be weighing and harvesting the roosters shortly if they dont make cut and then bringing in other genetics in possibly another broiler rooster if possible, or meat hens to hopefully increase weights up to 16 weeks. Its good fun, and the birds have lots of fun and are well kept up to harvest, so makes things feel better from the aspect of respect for the animals.

Besides, they're one of the few people that will discuss scripture with me. They clearly have an agenda but they're still good value. Even most christians I find arent interested and find detailed bible discussions too academic. Took them months to realise I was an atheist... The topic never came up. I still dont think they believe that I dont believe, they're a bit confused by atheists who want to talk about the bible and arent combative.
