I use a canteen cooking set almost exactly the same as that in your link for $109, but at a fraction of the cost. Mine are genuine ex army, the kidney stove US army. Its my backup system, cuz I got plenty of genuine hexi (not the rubbish they sell online or in camping stores). My primary cooking system is a little fold up gas burner with the stainless cups canteen. Use it whenever I go bush. My advice is stay away from overpriced stores that target people who dont have any experience in the bush. Thanks for that info and advice. One of the things that I read somewhere was that an advantage of the pathfinder canteen over many others is that others are aluminium whereas their one is stainless steel. Are you able to comment to this?

Remnantprep, is the Kelly kettle (and other similar kettles) as good as it looks?

The Kelly kettle is as good as it looks, not sure about the others though. We got the stainless steel mid size one. Heats water really fast. I got it because I wanted something that would use a little kindling and was renewable. I want to get the smaller one as well to keep in the car.

Just the military style mug with plastic water bottle that fits into it. Just watched a few youtube on the Kelly kettle, love the idea of the chemney and ability to feed combustion material through the top, the small pot with stand is the go, need to do more than just boil water. Looks like a well engineered rocket stove.

Yeah you can buy a little cook stove that sits in the base as well, you can place the grills on that and cook on that. It is really lightweight but is not a small piece of kit that you can have in a BOB. Good for having in the car or at home.

Interesting. I think I'd rather stove and pot to be separate. Horses for courses, looks like it would work.
For myself, after making my own alcohol stove out of an old cat food can in a couple of minutes, it boiled 1.5L of water [6 cups] in about 8mins. I'm certain I could make one with a windbreak to make it 'storm proof' and for nothing also.

I'm wondering about the size for when hiking etc. I know the measurements are in the site but I'd love to hear a personal review. BTW, I ended up getting a large kelly kettle and we love it. We even used it out the back of a holiday house just for marshmallows and a cup of tea.
