So local (rural VIC) vehicle fuel prices have shot up the last couple days, today unleaded being between 139.9 cents to 144.9cents and diesel being 129.9 to 136.9cents...
Something going on I don't know about?
What's fuel in your area, is this a localised price hike or are they up all round the state and country? Our prices are usually in line with Melbourne pricing, costs more to get it here but apparently the fuel we get comes through Adelaide and there is lower state tax or something so it evens out price-wise

What the blazes? Yeah if anyone knows *anything* that explains petrol prices ever please speak up, the random ups and downs make no sense.

We've had good prices on fuel in my town, diesel stayed at 1.17 for about 4mths which it came up from 6mths at 1.16 But a week and a half ago it shot up to 1.23 I initially thought due to the rain blocking off the roads up here, but now the rain has gone, it's stayed the same.

Is it anything new? I remember when I was kid fuel prices were slow to change with slow increases. The past decade fuel prices just seem to do what ever they want when ever they want and can vary by 20c at a time! Not that I notice so much, company car and fuel card

Lower Eyre peninsular - one day $1.19, next day $1.35, next day $1.24, now back to $1.29, some are $1.34.
A lot of fluctuation for 4 days.

some OPEC states have provided verbal committment to curtail production. this has led to speculation and raised price of oil futures. funny thing is oil price is still very low (by recent standards) we should be paying 80cents not $1.37. Saudi wanted to hurt US shale oil by over producingoil and dropping prices. this worked and many oil jobs and rigs were mothballed in the US. this has gone on for two years and it looks like they (opec) are sick of low oil prices so might cut production to raise prices. however oil inventories in many countries are close to full and many of them are using cheap shipping to store oil off shore. so cutting production should not affect prices for many months yet.
basically we are victims of theft.

More to the point, if anyone can explain to me why diesel normally costs more than ULP, please let me know. Buggered if I can figure it out...

It doesn't where I live in rural VIC, though I've found if in Melbourne, not the suburbs but actually within 10km of city centre then it's more expensive than ULP... can't explain, just an observation

I'm in SA and travel a very wide area south of the city. I use from 60-100L a week and keep a close eye on prices. For the past 4 months its gone from $1 to $1.30. Weekly swings of 20c peaking friday/saturday troughing tuesday.
Paid $1.298 today. The last 3 weeks I havent seen it move more than 3c away from $1.30, I'm guessing holidays are to blame. I've broken my 'dont let it drop under half' rule a few times over this period waiting for the dip that never happened.
