Can anyone recommend a Tanning kit supplier? I've seen a few online for the novice, but I thought I'd see if anyone had used one successfully on here.
Last week, we had 3 young deer come and graze on our property just outside our house. The hubsta shot one from the front deck, then we (with our teenage daughters) set to skin, gut and butcher him (the deer not the husband). The meat is now in the freezer, but we thought this time we would see what we could do with the hide, since it was so beautiful.
Due to the fact that we do not have the tanning chemicals on hand atm, we have used a method which uses bicarb and kero. We know many people who have successfully preserved hides this way, although everyone's "method" seems to vary slightly. Anyway, we thought we'd give it a go this way, and then if we have a tanning kit on hand next time, we would try that too.
Any thoughts or advice?

Save the brains of the animal killed. From memory every animal should have enough tannin (unsure if correct term) in the brain to tan the animals hide.
I'm interested in learning to tan so watching this thread
