Unfortunately despite these reports, nobody will do anything. Simple advice like having torches/food/water put aside would give people great comfort in such events, a consistent message would get people onboard.

We had a bit of a blackout last night only about an hour and half due to heavy storm, but always gives me a chance to practice. I check the weather warnings for extreme weather events and then turn of all my appliances got that all done before we blacked out. I was in the kitchen when the lights were still on, and asked my daughter to grab the lantern I keep in the lounge. Just right after she brought it into the kitchen the lights went out but we were prepared. It was bedtime so we sat on my bed, by lamp light read a book and opened the windows as the air cons and fans were out.
Just knowing what to do in these instances can help to keep your kids calmer as well as yourself.
