Another viewpoint - take it for what it's worth.

On the face of it this looks like Chinese propaganda, evident by the lack of fingers pointing at China in fair and equatable fashion. Strange, since most of the countries in the region are very upset at China and the setting up of Islands, ringed or not. I would have to get come further info here to comment properly on being ringed, first I've heard of it. It's also suggesting that America want Nuclear war? What? His proof is based on what exactly? He knows the strategy of administrations and that they're all the same? No evidence, not an arguement, it's intent is to scare people so they don't think clearly and it's nonsensical. This raises my suspicion more. China are absolutely aggressive and expansionist, China sea, African, Tibet ran by a dictatorial party, who also murder 100,000 people a year who do meditation for their organs that they give to their party members. They also prop up and value the money, keeping their people poor whilst party members make lots of money. I point this out to get a gauge of the people running the show, to get a gauge on the attitudes. Remember they don't have elections as such. They want to invade Taiwan, have gone into Africa and unlike the message in this [another reason] the roads are built very much for themselves to cheapen transport, it's colonialism in another guise. Are the US good...no, historically there's quite a few presidents that ought to be facing war crimes for their acts of illegal aggression. The balance here is clearly one sided and hardly critical on China at all... hmm. No need for grains, I suspect we might have a salt mine. ---- Edit, I thought I'd have a look at some positions on this to get a broader scope. I've not seen the film, though it aligns very well with what I had thought of this interview. Source

You actually watched it! I barely made 5 minutes and realized how far he had fallen. As far as the chinese in Africa. I worked there for 3 years around 2002 and saw first hand their pillaging of the country. The locals lament even now how anything the chinese operate is run into the ground without any investment in the country.

Yeah I have purposely avoided watching it, when I looked into Pilgers background!

The value of the currency was kept low before (not so much anymore) so that their factories could keep exporting cheap shit to the rest of the world...and keep millions of people in jobs, taxes being paid etc etc. Note that many many people have made a lot of money over the past two decades or so, not just party members. Now that the currency value has risen, their yuan is worth more and more against the dollar, which is why there has suddenly been a huge amount of investment in foreign property over the past few years. (Not to mention that property within China is insanely expensive, many times more out of reach of the average Zhou than it is for the average Joe in Aus. A 100sqm apartment in an average complex in the second-tier city I live in is going for around 30k yuan (A$5.5k or so) per square meter; while average salary is probably less than 10k yuan per month.)
re the doco - I wonder if this is Pilger's last hurrah? He does look like he's getting on a bit. This film sounds like its complete BS, however I've read that some of his earlier stuff made in the sixties and seventies about the Vietnam war etc was not bad.
