I watch a lot of this blokes videos on rocks, primitive skills & camping. channel link -> gotrocksinhead
Came across this vid where he did a 3 day get home hike to test out his GHB, enjoyed it so I figured I'd share. I like his humble approach to gear, keeps things simple.
Post trip gear overview

Good post Para.
I did have a laugh at the end of the first vid.Woops. Oh well good practice.
Nice to see most of his gear isn't shiny and new. Looks like very used items.

Most of his trips his 'gear' consists of rocks, sticks and bone... its a nice contrast with a lot of gear mad survivalists. When your 'knife' is a flake of rock it's pretty clear survival and camping doesn't have to cost the world. You just need to get out there.
He has inspired me to get into flint knapping, just gathering the tools and trying to find a local source of appropriate rock.
Example; Making a bowdrill spindle using bone, sticks & rock

I have often considered putting aside some time to grab my bag from the car and try the 3hr hike from the office to home. If something were to go south that's most likely where I'd be.
Has anyone tried anything like that?

Has anyone tried anything like that? I walked home from work in London once when the tube was out I don't work but have done a LOT of bushwalking and in the last year or so walked the 16+k into town through the bush a couple of times. I don't even have a proper BOB these days however I do plan to make one up (IE modify the stuff in my bushwalking pack) and do the walk into town again, maybe make it an overnighter just to test out shelter options.

I'm a fan of the utilizing what you have and what you can turn into something also. What makes me smile is that we have the best quality steel, often better than the finest steel in history in the cheapest of our knives. Sure you can go better and probably should if you can, though it's not necessary, heck, he found his knife and his pack in the rubbish. Makes me laugh. In terms of grabbing my pack, every now and then I walk a hour with my pack in the car, did it 2 days ago. It weighs 23kg. If I were going as far and with a specific location such as home, I'd probably offload some weight, such as drinking much of the water [3L in there], pulling out some of the extra items such as a wind up radio, extra food [there's 10 days in it]. etc to lighten it up to improve my speed. In my case I'd probably ride the fold-up bike if possible. Things I learned - keep the head lamp in the pack, aka get another so I have one in both spots - make another 'light' pack with just the essentials, also good for day walks. - leave some boots in the car, I'm relying too much on having the right shoes with me. I'm also thinking that I could bump the car food up to 30 days or so. I wouldn't carry that but it's something if you have to get along somewhere else.
The video is a bit long and drawn out, it could have been covered a bit more succinctly, though I certainly learned some things along the way and found it useful.

One probably wouldn't in a real life as he would have been less than 30 minutes drive from home but he was challenged by a fellow youtuber to test his GHB and its difficult to do so keeping your vehicle. You'd use a better narrative if you were writing a movie script but it was sufficient a hook for the youtube vid.
He makes fun of his scenario at the end when he finally gets home and sees the mailman drive past... "I thought everything was shut down." To which his son replies, "No, that was just a joke the radio station was playing on everybody"
