It's a good guideline for sure. Obviously some people have died on either side of those numbers depending on conditions and my current favorite one guy in 1968 lived for 1 year and 17 days [and then further] whilst monitored by doctors who didn't eat the whole time. Yes he took supplements and lost 125kgs.
Another kind of rule of 3 is, 1 is none and 2 is one.

The Rule of Three is a great guide Jason! Its amazing what we can actually eat to keep alive or to keep simple functions going in our body for our own mental health. Has anyone had any experience with extreme diets or some sort of survival course where you don't get to eat at all for days?? Not going potty for a No2 for days upon days is one of the most distressful things to reconcile in a survival situation. You will eat anything to keep those bowels going and to get a tiny stool out simply for your mental well being and for a tick in your daily box of why you need to keep going! Sounds funny I know but it's true. When you notice your normal systems shutting down it really wreaks havoc with your psyche.

Yeah man, did a survival camp when I was 13ish in scouts! Some people gave in and ate some things but I didn't eat for 3 days and managed to collect water from trees [put a clear bag around the leaves]. The only thing like food we got was toadies which you can't eat anyhow. When I was 24 I had a period of a week in which I ate very little due to financial strains. It sticks in your memory, you know what it's like and it's one of the reasons I have food stored.
