There are a tonne of reasons why people do not want a smart phone both personally and for family, and although the options out there are not many there are some. Here are some reasons why people and preppers might not want a smart phone: 1) They want something they dont have to charge every day and sometimes twice a day. Non smart phone batteries generally last a whole lot longer because they arent running background software etc. 2) They do not want internet access for their children due to the dangers of the cess pool it can be. 3) They or someone they are helping dont want internet access themselves due to any type of addiction or bad behavior they want to cease, gambling, gossip, porn, etc. 4) They want to disconnect with all the media and devices that have taken their time away and their life. 5) They dont know how to work a smart phone, and want something simple. 6) They dont want all the garbage that comes with one, possible hacking, tracking, bugging etc. (you can still be tracked, hacked and bugged with a non smart phone however, but your digi footprint might be lower on the radar as theres not much to see or steal, ie, photos, emails, notes, banking etc.) If you find yourself in one of these situations, or the recent 2g network has seen your good old phone outdated, consider one of these. Simple, and easy. www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/telstra-easycall-4If anyone else has knowledge of other options or info here, let us know, post away.

I can't find info on my phone but it's an older version of this Suites me just fine, I do like some of the stuff you can do with a smart phone but I don't need one (yet). Apart form a few contact numbers there's nothing on it to hack AFAIK.

Are you saying that the phone link i put up in the OP you can get for $39? If so, that's even better. One of the things i continue to say to preppers is that i believe it is important to seriously consider the possibility of a time where we need to dump the tech all together. I hope im not right as its a great tool and convenient, but gotta keep an eye out and close watch on the cons vs the fors.

Another thing you can consider is the "Senior phone", no internet, no wifi, no blue tooth. They usually have big buttons so good for emergency when you have to dial with wet/brunt fingers.
Dumb phones are pretty popular with drug dealers BTW, nothing be hacked, harder to track location (can be done by triangulation but less precise), doesn't store any info except for SMS and call log.
Having said that, newer senior phones do have GPS built in, but all it does is to send gps coordinates via SMS to emergency contact when you hold on the pain button for a few seconds.
They are not cheap, good ones are over $100. I got one for my dad (in his 70s) 3 years back, he freaked out when he found out that his dumb phone costed more than my samsung rugby grey import (the only MIL-STD-810G phone small enough I could find then).... now he surfs the net on his iPhone.....

Hey Guys, Sorry it took so long to get back here, this is the phone we sell at work, usually for $39, but it comes on special for $9 with suprising regularity www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/telstra-cruise-t126Seems like a good little basic phone and is missing most of the bells and whistles that are required for a lot of snooping No wifi, bluetooth or NFC at all, 2G and 3G only, also I cant seem to find any indication it has GPS capabilities which is a huge bonus
