I keep hearing phrases in common flippant use and realising what they actually mean:
"enough toilet paper to survive a world war" (three months worth? a world war historically lasts years)
"I'd rather DIE that eat that stew"
Can you think of more?

There are plenty of military survival manuals written in the 1980's and during the height of the cold war that have extensive chapters on nuclear war, reentry times, how long one can leave a shelter etc.. and what to do ext... I was/am considering upgrading my gas masks and potassium iodide tablets.. My all time favourite. end of world quote....  |

Unless you are in the impact zone you will more than likely survive it, but may die a slow painful death from radiation. I would much rather try to protect myself from it and try my chances at surviving although my chances may be slim!!

People know what it means but still go to normal activities unless they're too sick to cope. Quarantining oneself is beyond most people... If a seriously contagious version arrives it will go through our cities in a matter of weeks
