N. Korea threatens Guam, U.S.
A threat that hit home for everyone on the island brought Guam into the international spotlight in March.
Despite the existing military presence, the island still stood vulnerable to the North Korean threat of a preemptive nuclear strike without any permanent protection.
In response to the looming threat, Guam will now house one of three Terminal High Altitude Area Defense systems in the United States for the next six months as protection from any potential North Korean ballistic missile launch, arriving two years before the Pentagon had scheduled the initial deployment of the system to Guam.
