some kind of high energy, long storage food, like museli/protien bars, good for eating while you n the fam are on the move :)and whats your plans as far as trapping if you cant hunt for a couple of days? snares are my personal pick, theyre cheap, and pack down to almost nothing, and at least can be used to feed the dogs if youre set for food

oh and how about a couple of a tablet antihistamines? never know when the need for them will arise! spare roll of fishing line, packet of hooks and sinkers? hmmmmm..... what about one of those $30-ish solar chargers for phones etc? baby wipes/moist toilet wipes? cornstarch baby powder (good for any chafing/sweating and as a dry shampoo), plastic bags inc zip loc bags (more uses than i can count)just trying to think of things that would make life way more pleasant if youre on the move and the need for them arises....

Nice timing, I'm just about ready to put a couple of cache's together in some sealed 20litre containers, when I get to it, I'll put up a post. My perspective on cache are that you ought be able to leave them there for 30 years and be able to turn up with only your clothes on your back and be able to get going with being alive for a couple of weeks. From there, with some luck you can improve your situation. Here's approximately what I'm putting in mine.
Pool shock - Water purification/disinfectant a little goes a HUGE way for safe water. In air-tight container such as a pill/vitamin bottle. Could also use Potassium permanganate. [Condy's crystals] similarly which can be combined with glycerol to make fire and makes a similar disinfectant. Fishing lines and hooks - take no space, useful for sewing and fishing, rock for sinker and stick for float. Rat traps - for smaller animals they are excellent ways of catching them. Obviously if you're versed in snares use them too. Foil - Cooking [many times reusable if treated carefully] and potentially a container. A Billy - Cooking/boiling water, container. Whilst you can potentially still boil water in a plastic bag by throwing hot rocks into it, it's FAR more convenient having a metal container. Parachord - A billion uses Flint/magnesium striker - If you've ever tried starting fires without modern means you will know you can never have enough fire starting. Sure you can use the lighters flint for a while too, though these are small items and will last longer still. Cotton Wool - Flint for fires and for minor wounds [think bandaid] when combined with duct tape and disinfectant. Duct Tape - a zillion uses, worth its weight and space. Remove center cardboard and squash to reduce space. Tarp - Shelter, ground cover, container etc. Larger Clear plastic bags - Shelter, containers and water collection [put over leaves on tree] Knife [or a few] - Even a cheap kitchen knife or steak knife is better than nothing. You might be sharpening it more often [concrete or a flat rock] but for $2 you can have a few with little space Ponchos - Shelter and clothing Space blanket - shelter and warmth, sleeping. Having slept under one before, they're very warm [too warm usually]. Cards - Morale and fire-starting if need be. Rice - If sealed properly with o2 absorbers/carbon dioxide and you can leave it there for 30years. Soak for half a day to make edible [or cook] Beans - Similar to rice, soak for longer to be able to consume without cooking Sugar - A little for flavoring and morale. Never goes off Salt - Flavor and some is essential. A few tiny packets Dehydrated veggies - lasts a long time and whilst not high on kilojules good on vitamins.
Food quantities 2kg Rice, 5kg Beans, 0.5kg sugar, 0.2kg salt [enough for 3 months if you have no other source], 0.8kg dehydrated veggies [4kg of frozen veggies]. This is enough for 2 weeks [8700/day] with 124,500 Kj. If I have space I will add multiples of these.

I think definitely add physical water, not just filters, bottles, etc. Even if it's only 1L. I would also add things like Mars Bars, etc. Something that could increase the morale in children and the family if ever needed, etc.

RUM ! A guy I know who has been prepping for the last 15 years swears that rum will be the perfect trading currency when SHTF, thus he makes homebrew and puts it in his 55gal cache buried all over the country already within 3 days walk of each other

You should take some aluminium foil too, it can be used in a lot of ways.

I've been meaning to make up some caches, however I plan to store these at the houses of family and friends.
I'm going to use those 50L-ish plastic tubs and put in a collection of items including but not limited to food, water, batteries, uhf radios, lighters, torch/lantern/headlamp, solar chargers, hard and soft copy of important documents, some cash, a knife and multitool, sharpening panel, basic medical items, pack of cards, spare clothes and shoes, basic repair items: tape/glue/zipties/sewing kit, backpack, water filter, garbage bags, toiletries, etc.
The idea is I can walk or make my way however to one of these locations of my house is non-accessible or destroyed and have practical clothes and some basic tools and equipment and some food and water to not be a burden on where ever I go.
If I put a lockable container inside the box I could store some ammo in there too. Though as I don't store my guns at home, if I can't get to the storage place then there isn't much point.
