So, I guess anyone whose read many of my posts would realise that I'm one of those people whose family doesn't "get" or agree with prepping. I therefore try to get them involved without them knowing, by doing stuff like participating in local activities (ie. building local networks) and using stuff that also comes in handy prep-wise. One of my favourite ways of doing the latter is buying prep-related Christmas and birthday presents.
So, what are some of the things you would buy family that are useful prep-wise but they would also accept as a present?
(I've asked my wife for an upgraded Swiss army knife this year, which she is agreeable to, seeing as I use my very basic model on almost a daily basis)

I was thinking about this too - with the advantage that I have to buy something for someone involved in scouting, but I have to keep the budget very low.

A carton of spam That would be the only "prep" thing my wife would let me get away with as her and the boy love it, but would devour it over a month or 2

One thing as preppers we can overlook is entertainment for moral boosting, so maybe solar chargers for phones and tablets etc A cheap tablet or kindle reader loaded with games that can be played offline and books/music they may enjoy. A USB stick loaded with family photos and documents. Small first aid kits.

Over the years I have given to family members and friends and they all enjoy them is feral rods. I give them then teach the people how to use them, Then we will have competitions who can collect material and start a sustainable fire the quickest. Just last year my mother said where is mine as I only gave them to all of the kids. So now she has her own and she can start her own fires, it funny to watch how much joy it brings a person when they start there own fire for the first time. The main reason I like giving these is that they a very cheap when you buy in bulk off ebay.

Why are some so cheap and some so expensive?

Fishing tackle goes down well in many families and suits a variety of budgets. Or ... 'Emergency Rum'.

A first aid kit sounds like a great idea. And then every few years you can give them a replenishment kit for used or out of date items, saving the hassle of thinking of what gift to get. Did that a few years ago. One of the younger members of the extended family got his first car, so we gave him a bunch of useful accessories -- jumper leads, first aid kit, torch and a few non-prep things. Have also given various ladies of the family fragrant long-burn time candles, plus wind-up dynamo torches for the kids.

It's hard when you are the only one who prepares-it's taken about 5 yrs for my cook to go from all negative to sometimes surprisingly supportive. Now when we go shopping, and there is good specials on,she'll throw in a few extra items "for the storage tubs".
First Aid kits are a great idea-if you can afford it, pay for a first aid course?? Butane gas cookers-$20 at kmart, and great quality. I bought the stepdaughter one, and some cartridges (Bunnings are the cheapest) for her birthday. Or a good prepper dvd like American Blackout.

The Swill ones seem to be more expensive - many shops just overcharge. I like the ones with a thick magnesium block attached. The Chinese one's are usually softer and wear through much quicker but give of more sparks and are easier to start a fire with. The big cheap ones from Asian countries in my book are fine.

I have never purchased an expensive one to say if they are better but some of the reviews I have seen the people say there is a difference, but I find the cheap one fine. you might have to strike them a few more times but they always work.
