Please share resources for emergency notification services you're aware of. I'm hoping we'll get a good number of entries, which I'll [hopefully] regularly compile into a master list by region. Please include Two that I use often are: National: www.ewn.com.au/ - the Early Warning Network. There's also an app for your mobile device. This covers a range of emergencies; I've received notifications of bushfires, industrial fires, storm warnings, etc. WA: www.emergency.wa.gov.au/ - this covers emergencies from bushfires, controlled burns, to traffic crashes. This is linked from the DFES (Department of Fire & Emergency Services) website. Perth Metro: 6PR Radio is the official broadcaster for emergencies in the Perth Metro Area. It's at 882 on the AM dial. National (by region): ABC Radio. A list of frequencies can be found here: www.abc.net.au/local/ - and a list of websites can be found here: www.abc.net.au/news/emergency/

Having been through a few disasters of various kinds ... the best intel and info sharing, in my experience, comes via facebook etc. Particularly with fast and unpredictable fires; social media moves at a pace that the CFS and SES can't match. We had cases here where the radio was warning residents a fire is heading towards them after the burn-over had already occurred at the locations being warned. I assume the lag time is in 'official sources' trying to accurately verify whats happening whereas social media just operated (quite effectively though) without any guarantees for accuracy. I don't do the facebook/snapchat/twitter thing but I got two teenagers who are basically The Ministry of Local Affairs. Anyway ... here in SA the CFS facebook page is a good hub for local events in rural areas. I also get SMS alerts from CFS and BOM regarding extreme weather likely to cause damage. On 'big picture' health issues I like to scan the WHO reports every week or two and also for specific Australian info www.health.gov.au/cdnareportAlso, Stratfor occasionally spits out something interesting regarding world events.
