What a Scam! Either everyone does it or no-one should. Better yet ... Sweden is a capitalist country (like us). In capatilst economies we abide by the principle that 'user pays'. If there aren't enough volunteers to fill the ranks then raise the remuneration to attract more candidates! Basic Supply and Demand economics - as happens with any other kind of job!  

We don't conscript people for any other job except to defend the property of the rich farts who fear their neighbors (or their own citizens) at a 'discount rate'. Why the hell does someone working for the 'national interest' as a basic soldier in the ADF take home just $60k a year while unproductive doofuses (doofi?) in 'finance' playing hokey-pokey in the stock market, with other peoples money, walk away with hundreds of thousands, if not millions a year? How does our species get this allocation of value for service so spectacularly ass-backwards?  

Take a deep breath and think carefully about this: Why aren't young people conscripted to be doctors? - Apparently there's not enough of those either!

Of course ... here in Oz we have those wonderful 457 visas to bring in migrant workers.  Maybe if the ADF hits the point that they can't recruit enough locals ... they'll start using that method to make up the numbers.
