Events in Syria have recently clearly taken a turn for the worse and there is an increasing amount of evidence that the Russian task force in Syria is being targeted by a systematic campaign of “harassing attacks”.
First, there was the (relatively successful) drone and mortar attack on the Russian Aerospace base in Khmeimin.
Then there was the shooting down of a Russian SU-25 over the city of Maasran in the Idlib province.
Now we hear of Russian casualties in the US raid on a Syrian column (along with widely exaggerated claims of “hundreds” of killed Russians).
I hope everyone just puts their guns back in their holsters and return to quietly playing cards and having a few drinks. I've yet to see a middle east 'intervention' that's worked out well for the people there be it US, USSR or even way back in the day ... England. Most ME 'strong men' have now been toppled and for what benefit to anyone except multinational corporations taking over useful assets. Millions of civvies dead or damaged on top of many thousands of foreign troops sent there also dead or damaged.
It's really weird though ... it's like the US leadership drank too much to celebrate the fall of USSR, blacked out, woke up ... and now can't seem to remember that Russia is capable of causing them major harm - diplomatic, economic and military. Especially now US leadership has also pushed China and Russia into the same corner which may yet cement a proper alliance between them. Children playing with a rattlesnake comes to mind.
How is the west going to react when it gets slapped for once for pushing the boundaries and testing the patience of other nations?
There will come a point when Syrian forces and their allies will get sick of this continued harassment by western forces and fight back and fight back hard its important to note they shot down the Israeli jet in their airspace for this very reason I mean you keep kicking a dog that doesn't want to fight you one day it will bite you
I do wonder how the general public will react in the west when they start seeing their young soldiers coming home in body bags in their thousands and start losing fighter jets left right and centre once they face an equally armed and geared hostile
100% with you on that grumble. That IS the question. I reckon we might see that slap this year. Could be in Syria, or south china sea (China downing a US surveillance plane or similar) or Ukraine or any number of places where too much irritation has been applied. Or a slap in one place could touch off action in all the others.
