What sort of terrain is included in the 20kms you are referring too? I really cant go past the FDC units on eBay, these are 5W 99CH UHF handheld radios. You can get two units, with all the bits and bobs ex HK for around $100-$120.

If you want something small and very dynamic and can be used in so many different applications its not funny, have a look at a radio called the MBITR. Primarily a Military radio now used by units all over the world including police in Vic, ( great, militarized piggies ) you can not get one that accepts Crypto keys generated from egg devices but you can get this radio in plain text. Analogue. Close to the Real thing and has many of the same functions but at the end of the day it's a Good knockoff & quite a powerful little handheld portable CB. I think this could be something along the lines of what you're after! Many different pieces that you can buy for them including throat Mics, Vehicle booster units and molle covers etc etc etc. Too many to list. This might also be nothing like what you're after but it's good to look at different things to give you ideas on what you want right. www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/Accessories_Throat_Mics_Headsets_Radios_United_Star_AN_PRC_148_Multiband_Inter_Intra_Team_Radio_MBITR.htmOther than something like this the sky's the limit. You can buy setups that will see you speaking to people in China if you really want. Setups like these are heavily regulated though and of course come under government rules of communication legislation and as such you gotta pay the Mafia money to use it! Haha Always comes down to money yeh! There is actually a job here in Oz that see's Govt comms officers driving around in vans with great mobile HF units tracking and monitering the signals TX'd and RX'd through known designators and they make sure that the sigs in use are fully payed up. If not then you end up getting the van at your front door asking you politely for all your gear or lots of money! NO SHIT! Almost sounds like something out of a movie huh.

I think I have a lot to learn about this subject! One of many things I need to learn mind you! Groan! No need for China, maybe just Australia though!

I currently run the icom ic-41w as my hunting radio and now my go to 4wd radio. It's waterproof 5w and excellent build quality. You would get close to 20km range in open area too, Don't think you would beat it with any other hand held in the same category. It's around $300 so not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Icom ic-41w

I used to have an Ic-400 (?) in a past 4wd. It was the 5W unit that was switchable to 25W. $50 extra at Prosound (audio place here where you get fully sik subwoofers bro..if you follow my drift ) and they would switch it up. Lets just say, everyone the tried to talk over me was mud and i had NO problems timing the repeater out lol...Ahhh to be young again

Hey Wayne got a particular model for me as my ignorance with radio is profound, I have no idea what's better and why other than seeing the output wattage?
