Has anyone seen this? Is it as good as they claim? If so, I'll get one! homebiogas.com/

Our two dogs eat 90% of our biowaste - wonder if it would run on dog shit and grass clippings?

i personally think this product has more in common with 0:20 in the youtube video than solving the environmental crisis. Don't get me wrong, i love the idea of home biogas but not this product. it looks as flimsy and durable as a 5 dollar kmart camp chair.
the Chinese have been doing home biogas since jesus was a boy. there are some good youtube clips about how they do it as well as some more durable DIY jobs based on plastic drums.

Yep. I've seen some YT clips from SE Asia where they put home made gas from barrel fermenters (plastic chemical drums) into tyre tubes and then run motobikes on it. Very cool and something I'll try one day if I ever get the time. Probably not to run an engine but perhaps a gas burner.

As much as I hate to refer to the abomination that is "Doomsday Preppers", IIRC S01E01 showed a homestead that ran kitchen burners on methane from their septic system.

This discussion reminds me of episodes of “The Good Life” - British comedy from many yrs ago.

I listened to a podcast the other day about a dude in Melbourne who has one of these units providing his cooking gas and back-up for his solar water heater. Apparently he needs much more than just a couple of meals worth of waste though (he also takes left overs from his neighbours). He reckons the resulting waste is a pretty good fertiliser too. Does seem like a good off-grid alternative to bringing in gas tanks if it works as well as its designed to.

The text book description of a theoretical system has been around a long time.
The issue seems a system large enough to do meal cooking and some lights ON A DAILY BASIS takes more equipment, biomass, and man hours to run and maintain than is practical IN MANY PLACES.
Now I used the capitals to point out what I feel are the two biggest considerations for the INDIVIDUAL SYSTEM.
Most cities about 10,000 or so have a digester system along with there waste water treatment plants. These digesters produce a lot of methane, which is use to fire the digester system, but far from 100% of the fuel needed.
For instance.. I have seen a system used on and fueled by about a 200 cow dairy system. I don't know for sure the rate of gas production there. They used the gas to co-generate power for the farm. They could not produce all they consumed or have excess power to sell back to the grid.
There in lies another issue.... For instance if you do produce power by what ever means and put that power back into the grid, you usually end up being paid wholesale rate for your power and still having to pay retail for you power use. Another thread, another time.
My 5 cents of knowledge.

We run our stove and hot water system off LPG gas bottles.....wonder how hard it would be to make up a system to run off horse poo (got plenty of it and yards need to be mucked out anyway) and hook it straight to the gas line for the house.....

Pick up sticks and dry grass. Set alight, put hotplate or camp oven over fire and cook dinner. Way too easy.

During the 3 day blackout here in SA a few years ago, people were whinging they couldn't cook - so, we gave them your suggestion. Their response "No way, we'll burn our new pots and pans". Go hungry I guess!

eah except we are in total fire ban conditions for 5 months of the year.....and it gets a bit hot lighting a fire in the house in summer when its 45° outside 😣 >>>>>>>>>>>>> We also have fire bans every summer, but not recreation, camp fire. It must be contained to half meter diameter x half meter max high. Works well to use the HOBO stove made from a 20 lb propane bottle.
We use every chance we get to cook outdoors. When the weather gets warm Sweetie will have every window open, fan on, and grumble when it gets to warm for her.. She is ready for the "Red Neck Hot Tub" (110 gallon stock water tank) when it gets near 20C....
Can't fix stupid... Just remember... It is OK to remind morons that they indeed are morons as they tend to forget..
