I've seen this kind of tech in action many years ago ... very cool. Must be one of best ways to keep a vehicle running in a fuel constrained environment. Widely used in Germany towards end of WW2. Theu even had training tanks with wood gasifiers on them.

I think there was something similar in the UK during WW2 as well!

Being old tech it has advantage of being more repairable than new tech. I have no idea how to fix a dead solar panel. Can a dead solar panel even BE repaired to full use?

have done wood gas before. Due to the nature of the combustion it suits long stroke engines best with large fly wheels. Runs erratically on newer engines. Tv series Mountain men had a guy that modified a hilux (or similar) to run on it. It can be messy and you need to have a tar catcher and intercooler to get the gas as cold as possible before entering the engine. I used it to run a holden red 6 which was running an irrigation pump. At operational speed I would go through roughly 0.1 m2 of wood an hour. Draw backs was wood had to be cut to a certain size to improve the gasification (about 4cm cubes) and the time required to prep the wood and feed the gasifier. I was going to experiment with autonomous feeder at the time, but my plans changed.
