Discussing the issue today at church, people need to be reminded that Australia is a very young country and there is only like 150y of rainfall records, one needs about 300years to to be able to calculate an accurate 1:100y flood event. Yes 800,000 housed in QLD at risk of flooding what happens when a big event occurs like never recorded before - 3-4 people per house - that is a lot of displaced people. Sure the entire state is very unlikely to flood at the same time - but there will still be 1 million refugees and the rescue and recovery will stretch resources.

Whats the bet big brother decides they need to tax Australia as a whole again to fix this never to be repeated natural disaster, that once again QLD and other states dont prepare for!!

It doesn't help that major roads/hwy up this way aren't flood proofed and are built with low lying bridges. The Sarina range road was washed away in Debbie and still won't be repaired until at least the end of this year at the earliest.
I'm getting more and more prepared because its now an annual min thing for my town to get cut off and in blackout each year. Though I am still lacking on a lit of things like extra food/water (ATM I'm only allowed to keep 1 weeks worth of food/water but am slowly adding meat to the deep freezer to increase the levels as the missus gets real cranky when I buy canned foods) but as soon as I can get the missus to finally empty out the crap still sitting in boxes in the garage mostly of kitchen stuff then I can have more room in the garage for my husk ESS and to out in extra cupboards to hide food from her in lol
