PINEAPPLES
While pineapples are so cheap - they are great to dehydrate. I’ve done less than I wanted to so far but I’m still going. They are delicious just to snack on.
They are very easy to prep to dehydrate as you can just peel and then cut the sides off - you don’t need them to be rings. I’ve been drying them until they are VERY dry as I want to sure they are fine for a while.
Found the little sweet ones (which are the ones we’ve been loving) still at 3 for $5 the other day.

I don't mind pineapple and the little bloke loves them. So I grabbed one today having read the above thread this morning.
How thick do you cut them? I'm thinking of going either rings or length-strips of about 15mm - does this sound about right?

I just cut the skin off then the sides, cutting straight down against the core, so I end up with four pieces the length of the pineapple - one like a half circle, two sort of quarter circles and one that is smaller. Sometimes I halve the large one so the pieces are more consistent, but not always. Then I slice it thinly - about half the width of regular sliced tinned pineapple or similar to the Golden circle slices called “thins” (I’ve don’t a few cans of thins as they are). All of this is just the simplest and quickest for me. I’ve carefully cut it into rings before which looked nice but I could see no other advantage. I cut it thin (pretty much as thin as I can while it stays neat) just to ensure it dries out properly and quite quickly.
Hope that helps. Really any shape will be good, and keep it quite thin.
It is loved by kids.
If you can get any cheap mangos, they’ve been good to do too, and all the store dried mango is very high in sugar. I’ve just been drying it without adding anything and it’s been delicious.

Thanks tomatoes - I'll try that shortly. Another great fruit for drying is persimmon; it's just coming into season here so I'm hoping to buy bulk amounts and dry them.
