What luxury item, activity or experience (does not have to be expensive but would be a luxury for you) would you like to or have had in the last 5 years that would be a good memory to focus on during SHTF? This is good for mental health. For sometime I had a deep desire to get my older children back from the UK for a bit of a holiday back home. Well we were able to achieve this and we had such a lovely time together that it has created a great memory for us. Even if its not something we will do again it will be one of those things we look back on and say I am so glad we did that! Another thing I would like to do is get a collection of lovely scented soaps and just enjoy them now in hot showers. AS winter is upon us, I love my fluffy socks and slippers, so I would like to buy a stack of fun fluffy socks.

Knowing that my children had a luxury item/s (shtf tomorrow, this would be things like stuffed teddies, colouring books and pencils etc) would be sufficient enough for me. I’d sacrifice my luxury for that extra room for another pack of colouring pencils. -B

If it were to be a memory to look back on, another African Safari. I had my first almost 4 years ago and it was an incredible experience. I spent almost a month in Africa with a mate, we hired a land rover 110 series fully decked out and went off on our own for most it, doing a few organized photography outings here and there with various companies. Its a trip I still think back on often and I'm currently in the process of putting together a new trip to out do the first. If it were to be a physical luxury item to have that I probably wouldn't after a short time into the SHTF, a case of mixed craft beer

No-one's mentioned sex yet? Already forgotten what that is lol. Being clean. After a long camping trip the first thing I enjoy is a long hot shower and feeling clean. So yeah, grid down, that will be the memory I will hang onto.

Yeah I'd love to go back to Africa, we did the same in Kenya for 6 weeks, just hired a car and took off into the bush. Not a 4x4 obviously but that didn't seem to stop us (The rental company was not impressed) Got an article published about the trip I researched this again 2-3 years ago, still doable and there is a mob in Kenya that hire the Landrovers for a reasonable price. Two parties with two vehicles would be the go. It's just a dream now though I think.

I look back on my holiday with my children as so precious, if things go to crap they may not get back here! These moments we can reflect on, and while we may be sad that its something we may never get to do again we can also rejoice that we had the chance now to do these things! I love all the responses, what great memories. I encourage all to also enjoy those small things as well, like fluffy socks and colouring pencils, or just a walk with your kids exploring! Put those fluffy socks on and feel the warmth and the softness, buy the biggest pack of colouring in pencils and enjoy watching your kids create with all the colors! Ring up a friend or family member and enjoy the sound of their voices and discuss those good memories with them, "Hey remember this time we had together, it will keep me going in the worst of times!" Would love to hear some more form you all. What small things, like craft beer and scented soaps, would you like to appreciate now?

Readily-available meat. Once TSHTF those of us who aren't in rural areas will only have the odd bit of small game and fish in terms of proteins; striving towards a decent brisket dinner will certainly inspire me...

The dishwasher
(Ours has broken down today, along with our internet, and I’ve been cooking so I’m feeling a little fed up.)

Easy access to everything - is something I’ll miss but am also looking forward to.
Just about every minute of every day it seems that someone is asking to buy something in this house. Today I chopped 3.5 kg plums and made plum jam - to be used within 12 months. Next thing someone walks out opening a fresh jar of store bought plum jam from the cupboard - much longer use by date. “But I don’t like homemade jam. It has lumps.” I’d just like everyone to be forced to eat food as it comes for a while, to put up with clothes that aren’t their current favourites (although they were the must-have clothes of a week ago), etc. (And I’d cooked it until there were very few lumps, but he wouldn’t even taste it.)
But I’m sure I’ll miss the luxury of being able to buy any ingredients I want.

I reckon anyone who gets a toothache post SHTF will sure be dreaming about the heady days of pain free dentistry!
But as a 'warm and fuzzy' ... floating around in a tropical thermal spring with the family for hours on end.
Wish I was there now actually!

There are lovely ones in pretty much every health food store I go in, with usually a nice range for only $1.95 each or so. If you haven’t bought yourself some yet, then you should. And each time you need a new soap, buy two and hide the spare one away to build up a little stash. If it would be something you’d really enjoy, then considering how inexpensive it would be to treat yourself, you should make sure you get around to doing it.

The luxury activity I think we'll miss the most as a family would simply be driving. The ability to just hop in the car and drive, exploring a new town/park/whatever just for the sake of it. I imagine any post SHTF world our weekend drives would be one of the things we miss the most.
The luxury item would be a chilled Coca Cola... Having given up the others, caffeine remains my one vice. I have plenty of nice coffee beans and teas stored away but sometimes a chilled coke is just the ticket and would be the one luxury I end up trading for if I need a moral boost.

I assume cans of Coca Cola would last a very long time, so you could probably stockpile a carton. Then you just need to worry about chilling it...

The memory of what it was to be safe and secure is what I believe most people crave when things go belly up in a big way well that's my experience from talking to people who have lived through real world SHTF
I think the biggest thing I would miss the silly things like a nice ice cold iced coffee and a panadol whenever I wanted one or having the options to chose not to do something because I don't want to rather than the new version which would be I have no option to chose not to do it because the activity no longer exists

...having the options to chose not to do something because I don't want to rather than the new version which would be I have no option to chose not to do it because the activity no longer exists Or having the option to not do something because I know the chance of death to my family and me would be far higher than it is now...
