Good info here. The BHC and I have just bought a place in Texas. We'll be out of Virginia, God willing, by the end of July!

O.U.T Resources Environment is unsafe Destination Overwhelming force Unprepared Threat has increased Or GREATGut feeling Resources dwindling Environment Unsafe Attack likely Threat Escalating This is a really important topic that over the previous centuries many, many people have gotten spectacularly wrong. I have a theory that the Psychology of Previous Investment consistently traps most people into dire circumstances they should have walked away from well before the situation spirals out of control. It applies equally to more mundane things like personal relationships and investments as it does to economic meltdowns and foreign invasions.

I agree with spinifex. Don't put all your eggs in one basket and don't become so reliant on one asset that your lose your life for it. Your home, your bov, even your retreat should be expendable. Your life and the lives of your children and partner are not expendable. Plan and act accordingly. Totally agree with this I have seen it many times where people are so deeply invested both financially and emotionally the will not ever leave a situation and their possession's or emotions will become their tomb

I'd say when relatives start knocking on your door wanting hand outs, then it's time to leave!

I'd say when relatives start knocking on your door wanting hand outs, then it's time to leave! That's why I haven't told my relatives that I prepare. They may have seen the odd indication here or there, but I have very little trust in most of them.

My father used to say if you can smell the smoke you have left it to late An excellent saying. I know a few people who have literally felt the flames before leaving a bushfire situation. In one case dumb luck prevailed and they got away. In the other ... fatal consequences.

In any event, you do NOT want to become a "refugee"! If you missed the "bug out" window, then dig in and stay put!
