The every day carry has been mentioned a lot in the “small habits” thread. I know there will already be discussion of what to put in an EDC, but I thought it would be interesting to have a quick update.
What is in your EDC? How big is it? How is it different if you’re away from your car (eg you catch public transport to an “event”)?

As a woman my EDC is a handbag. I have a small first aid kit and sewing kit, A small torch and spare batteries, a pocket knife/tool, a bandanna, insect bite cream, a cooling towel, and a few other bits and bobs. Its a good reminder to check your etc as I think there may be something missing from mine lol

My EDC lives in my car as that's what I'm in if I go anywhere. I usually have a couple of things in my nappy bag too now that I'm having to carry one again!

I really want to say my EDC is a switchblade, zippo lighter and a bad attitude. But in reality ... just a bunch of keys and a wallet. I do have more stuff in my car though. And if I'm out paddling I have a waterproof 'survival capsule' tied to my PFD.

I keep EDC simple: the main things that haven't been mentioned yet are a mini multitool (the type that unfolds from a pair of plyers) and prescription sunnies. Apart from that most of the stuff is in the car/home/office.
I'd like to have an EDC 9mm, but this being the nanny state that it is...

Swings and roundabouts I think ... thanks to the nanny state we have much less need to have a 9mm EDC. Unlike say the USA where anyone and everyone could be packing and if you don't have one yourself you're at a disadvantage. I'm 45 and no ones pulled a pistol on me yet. I also don't personally know anyone who's had a pistol pulled on them in Oz either. I know quite a few victims of 'friendly' stabbings though I had a multi-tool ... after about two years of using nothing but the blade I dumped the lumpy bugger and went back to an ordinary, small, single blade pocket knife.

I've had a pistol pulled on me before. A snub nosed 38 revolver, pushed into my stomach by a plain clothed detective. In my bad boy days. ... yeah ... I should have put a caveat for police in that statement! I do know some folks who have had that experience. But only when they really asked for it by threatening officers with weapons of their own.

Bit of an overreaction hey. Bullet holes are easy enough to bog up and re-paint. Now if you'd been suspected of burning an officers car in his driveway ... well ... that'd be different. I think I still have some old photos of the aftermath of just such an event from a remote community where I used to work. Arson was a bit of a pastime out there.

I'm a bit late to the party I know, but I'm surprised I seem to be on the heavier side of things! I have one of these bags: www.ebay.com.au/itm/Molle-Men-Sling-Chest-Bag-Tactical-Military-Cross-Body-Messenger-Shoulder-Pack/272728501594?epid=8003682747&hash=item3f7fe2ad5a:m:mDH7lZafGiV5PpP3IPCJzuQIt's tiny, less than the size needed to carry a 11" laptop. Inside it I carry: - 1 x TQ - 1 x Israeli bandage - 2 x pressure dressings - 1 x wound packing gauze - 1 x thermal bag - small disinfectant bottle (used quite frequently) - several band aids (used quite frequently) - 4 snack bars (high turnover) - prescription sunglasses - pliers multitool - utility knife (probably overkill) - lighter x 2 (probably overkill, but great for lighting candles at children's birthday parties) - thumb drive - small case of vaseline - disposable KFC straw/serviette/teaspoon - Notebook (paper) - 2 pens + 1 pencil There still remains space for me to carry around a fair bit jammed on top of the existing contents. Maybe it's because my job is mostly desk work, I don't feel it's very heavy. I carry it to and from work, and whenever I go out of the office I wear it. I've also started carrying it with me when I leave the house on weekends, leading my wife to call it my 'man bag'.

I used to carry a small torch as well, but it kept turning itself on and draining the batteries. Trying to find a way to carry one without it going flat all the time.

I also have put a custom made first aid kit in my car and the wife's. TQs, pressure bandages, Israeli bandages, mostly. A few band aids to cover minor boo boos, too.
