I'm tempted to agree with Pion ... Would the politicians allow constitutions to hold power over commercial sponsors? When push comes to shove, commercial interests like Nike or Coca Cola don't have a lot of clout down here in Texas. The state of Texas is big - about 1000 miles across and about 1000 miles top to bottom. People who aren't from here have a hard time comprehending the size. Most politicians aren't armed. Most Texans are. Texas is the 11th largest economy in the world, energy self-sufficient, agriculturally self-sufficient, industrially self-sufficient, with deep water ports. Texas even has its own state-owned bullion depository with its own gold deposits. Finally: THE TEXAS CONSTITUTION ARTICLE 1. BILL OF RIGHTS That the general, great and essential principles of liberty and free government may be recognized and established, we declare:
Sec. 1. FREEDOM AND SOVEREIGNTY OF STATE. Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States, and the maintenance of our free institutions and the perpetuity of the Union depend upon the preservation of the right of local self-government, unimpaired to all the States.
Sec. 2. INHERENT POLITICAL POWER; REPUBLICAN FORM OF GOVERNMENT. All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their benefit. The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient.

The physical size isn't surprising (Western Australia is the size of Texas and Alaska combined). But I had no idea about the economy and self-sufficiency in those areas. I'm assuming Texas also has the potential for self-sufficiency of oil (and not just for electricity production)...
