Having moved from a trades to an office environment a couple years ago I've struggled a lot with EDC. I used to be the guy with a knife, multiitool, a lighter, small torch ect.. on my person and almost came to rely on that fact. Very early on in the piece I got far more attention than I typically like to attract when I offered a simple GRP griptilian to someone needing a knife. This caused me to pull back and now I keep a very simple victorinox style pocket knife in my desk and that's it. Now I've always got a proper knife and gear in the car but there's always the thought that you need to leave your car quickly or something happens to it leaving you without tools. What sort of prepping gear do people carry when in you're business attire or formal gear say at a wedding?

A few points...
1) A briefcase is a wonderful thing, in that it's personal & private (much like a lady's handbag). Everyone else can stay the hell out of mine. 2) Also, James Bond rocked the EDC briefcase idea. Knives? Cash? Teargas? Check to all three plus more. 3) Innocent items (mini Leathermans, etc) are easily concealed in pockets. Mine is attached to my keyring. 4) My EDC knife (ZT 0550 folding knife) fits easily in a jacket's inside pocket. 5) A slightly looser-fitting jacket can conceal a few small items.

Good question Para.
I have to transit airports a bit for work meetings ... placing even more restrictions on what I can carry.
I have a few items ... all currently legal, and always pass thru security screening ... but can't share them for fear that they will get added to the 'banned' list for carry on luggage.
One thing I can say is I never wear synthetic clothes on a plane. Only heavy cotton and wool ... stuff that won't instantly burn onto you in the remote chance one has to flee a burning plane. (I watch waaaaay to much air-crash investigation!)
I also have a thermal blanket (like the ones in first aid kit) in my laptop bag.

A good torch with fresh batteries each time you fly...and solid shoes or boots, not sports shoes (they melt)...your carryon should represent a 'flyers BOB'...a small first aid kit...a compass and/or GPS (not your phone!)...a copy of The (Gem) SAS Survival Guide by John Lofty Wiseman in a plastic bag...everything in plastic bags lol...

Yeah I've just been rocking the laptop bag between offices and going minimalist on the documents. A briefcase sounds like just the ticket!
Been looking for a couple days... this purchase is going to hurt. 'Buy once, cry once' I guess?
The thermal blanket is a great tip! especially given it's size/weight costs are so low.
Carryon BOB is pretty serious Pion, not a bad idea...

Yep, a good briefcase is damn expensive, but the cheapies are rubbish. I stopped using leather ones after a few were badly damaged when used on building sites. I now use one like this where a few scratches don’t seem as bad as on a leather briefcase. It depends on if this look is suitable for your situation. www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-aluminium-tool-case_p0014325

Together with friends of mine a bulk order for cut foam was made that suited them, 4 sheets and a half sheet for the top fit perfectly and it made for really cheap hardcases for expensive toys... Unfortunately I'm completely out of engineering/construction now and that case would stick out like dogs balls... On the plus side very little chance of destroying a nice leather one if I spend the right money.

I still have an old 80's plastic briefcase kicking around from policing days...still works and if I give it a clean still 'greyman' for the office (if hidden under the desk lol)...

Minimal.
knife - Spyderco PM2 Torch - Fenix PD35
I usually take a small shoulder bag or messenger bag to a wedding for the camera and a couple of lenses which also has enough room for the PM2/PD35, wallet, keys, phone, sunnies etc.
If you need a suitcase, there's only one brand

At an event such as a wedding I also carry minimal EDC... but I typically have my car in the parking lot so there's a full GHB in the boot...
