Yeast has long inhabited the planet Earth, a simple organism that is hundreds of millions of years old. It plays a vital role in the creation of alcohol as the fungus turns sugars into the intoxicating brew of choice. Without yeast there would be no beer, wine, vodka, champagne, what have you. www.askaprepper.com/how-to-make-yeast-for-long-term-storage/

For safety I would not recommend these methods unless absolutely no other alternative. Yeast bought from home brewing supplies stores lasts years anyway.

And although most people can't be bothered and prefer to just spend the $3 or so and use a new sachet of yeast each time, you can keep reusing yeast after fermenting. Just collect the sludge that forms at the bottom of the fermenter and it can either be used straight away or cleaned up a bit by rinsing and letting it settle again.
