Yes, "scientific" uses as well as a jump off point for bombers to save flying around the world Yes and the Australian Government will donate a large area of our Commonwealth Antarctic Territory to assist with building it! They'll also establish a board filled with esteemed, million dollar a year directors such as Sam Dastyari to facilitate harmonious Australia / China relations during its construction!

I might add that big nations bullying smaller ones is the way or the world, always has been. We did it to Timor Leste over oil, probably screwed New Guinea and a few others as well. I won't be getting overly excited about China flexing it's muscle, but will just try to anticipate how that might affect me and prepare accordingly. Very well put. Don't overlook the 300+ Aboriginal nations that got dismantled by the British. I reckon add fish and other seafoods to the resources the Chinese would like to exert control over.

And it’s been this way since the dawn of civilisation. Look at the Roman Empire, for example.

China's just looking for additional locations for new Chinese restaurants. Do penguins even like fried rice?

Nobody lives in the Antarctic, just a few scientists doing research.

Australia made a massive mistake signing on to the Antarctic treaty. We allowed other nations to ignore our territorial claim. When it expires, the CCP will no doubt make their own claim and start mining.

When it expires, the CCP will no doubt make their own claim and start mining. CCP is also making claims to the Arctic, despite having no territory in the area. No doubt they will start "finding" old maps that prove that both poles were Chinese territory for time immemorial.
