Just reading the interesting post from survive3secwithoutme.... I do have my own views on bugging in and bugging out but I would be interested in what the collective wisdom of the group has to say on the subject. I don't think there is a collective wisdom, it is a very hot topic with heated opinions. My reasoning is to prepare for all eventualities. I am buggin in but it is foreseeable that one might have to evacuate due to storms, flooding, bush fires, invading armies, sanitation in the neighbourhood due to all services stopping (garbage, sewerage), plague, radiation from a dirty bomb, earthquake, security as gangs or dictatorial gov take over the area. Yeah yeah I know most will say we already have a dictatorial gov but you ain't seen nothing yet, I am talking about marshal law kind of thing. It is possible if one takes too long to make the decision to leave an area it can become too late to leave as roads are blocked and looters have taken over the roads, I personally think the risk is overplayed for Australian context (perhaps if you are in the heart of one of the big Aus cities!!! The idea of taking a few supplies and hunting equipment and going lo live in some remote bush land is not practical for most and a very tough life. To be self sufficient one needs livestock (goats, rabbits etc) and seeds with area for cultivation.

All about the options, nothing's known or absolute. More than likely it's just a fun hobby I'll never need [hopefully]

Just reading the interesting post from survive3secwithoutme.... I do have my own views on bugging in and bugging out but I would be interested in what the collective wisdom of the group has to say on the subject. As far as bugging in or out goes I believe it is wrong to only have one plan, either way. As spatial, frostbite and shinester said it, it's all about options. When I joined up here not long ago I only had the option of bugging in and hoping for the best. Since then I've contacted old friends from further west and now have the option of bugging out with them. I would have to pull my weight and offer skills and resources. It would be a sad day though if I ever had to leave here permanently as I am on good terms with my farming neighbors. Some of them have led the self sufficient life-style all their lives and have vege gardens, fruit trees, poultry and livestock. Truly inspiring and something for me to work towards. I don't see the "lone wolf" live in the bush thing as a sensible option, for me at least. That would be more like a final act of desperation. We are social creatures and I would suggest those who base their plans on bugging out alone have not thought it through properly. You may survive long enough to simply to go crazy.
