I suppose with all the weird stuff going on with the stock markets and economy, zerohhedge.com is putting up a few preparedness articles. I think a well thought out list from an experienced. The author makes some good discussion on the 10 habits. The 10 Daily Habits Of Highly Prepared Peoplewww.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-26/10-daily-habits-highly-prepared-people #1: Prepared people think beyond “Plan A” #2: Prepared people react calmly. #3: Prepared people are critical thinkers. #4: Prepared people carry a kit with them everywhere, every day. #5: Prepared people are MacGyvers. #6: Prepared people live a skills-based lifestyle. #7: Prepared people are physically active. #8: Prepared people require purchases to be multi-purpose. #9: Prepared people are not wasteful. #10: Prepared people practice situational awareness.

Good looking list, however the author spelt MacGyver wrong and I can't reconcile that.

Okey Dokey SA...
Standing Orders Rogers Rangers (Major Robert Rogers 1759)
1. Don’t forget nothing.
2. Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, sixty rounds powder and ball, and be ready to march at a minutes warning.
3. When your on the march act the way you would if you was sneaking up on a deer. See the enemy first.
4. Tell the truth about what you see and what you do. There is an army depending on us for correct information. You can lie all you please when you tell folks about the Rangers, but don’t never lie to a Ranger or an Officer.
5. Don’t never take a chance you don’t have to.
6. When we’re on the march we march single file, far enough apart so one shot can’t go through two men.
7. If we strike swamps, or soft ground, we spread out abreast, so it’s hard to track us.
8. When we march, we keep moving till dark, so as to give the enemy the least possible chance at us.
9. When we camp, half the party stays awake while the other half sleeps.
10. If we take prisoners, we keep ‘em separate till we have time to examine them, so they can’t cook a story between ‘em.
11. Don’t ever march home the same way. Take a different route so you won’t be ambushed.
12. No matter whether we travel in big parties or little ones, each party has to keep a scout 20 yards ahead, twenty yards on each flank, and twenty yards in the rear, so the main body can’t be surprised and wiped out.
13. Every night you’ll be told where to meet if surrounded by a superior force.
14. Don’t sit down to eat without posting sentries.
15. Don’t sleep beyond dawn. Dawns when the French or Indians attack.
16. Don’t cross a river by a regular ford.
17. If somebody’s trailing you, make a circle, come back onto your own tracks, and ambush the folks that aim to ambush you.
18. Don’t stand up when the enemy’s coming up against you. Kneel down. Hide behind a tree.
19. Let the enemy come till he’s close enough to touch. Then let him have it and jump out and finish him up with your hatchet.

And while we're dealing with prepping for the aggresive...
Rules Of A Gunfight
Rule 1. Bring a gun. Preferably bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends that have guns.
Rule 2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap, life is expensive.
Rule 3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.
Rule 4. If your shooting stance is good, youre probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.
Rule 5. Move away from your attacker, distance is your friend.
Rule 6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.
Rule 7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of calibre, stance or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
Rule 8. If your not shooting you should be communicating, reloading and running.
Rule 9. Use a gun that works everytime. Accuracy is relative. Most combat shooting will be more dependent on ‘pucker factor’ than the inherent accuracy of the gun
Rule 10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to to death with it because it is empty.
Rule 11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
Rule 12. Have a plan.
Rule 13. Have a backup plan because the first one wont work.
Rule 14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
Rule 15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
Rule 16. Don’t drop your guard.
Rule 17. Always tactical load and scan 360 degrees.
Rule 18. Hands kill, watch them.
Rule 19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
Rule 20. The faster you finish the fight the less shot you will get.
Rule 21. Be polite. Be professional. But have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
Rule 22. Be courteous to everyone, be friendly with no one.
Rule 23. Your no.1 option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence and de-escalation.
Rule 24. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the calibre of which starts with anything smaller than ‘4’.
Rule 25. You cant miss fast enough to win.

These are all good points, enjoyed reading them.
Only thing I'm uncertain about at the moment is how ammo is cheap (rule 2), when SHTF you might be in a position where your current stockpile is all you have so you have to conserve it. Is the saying "safer than sorry" practical when it could result in you having no ammo when you actually need it in a later encounter? Or should we treat every potential skirmish as deal with the present and ignore future until it comes?
Might be practical to find something reusable that you can confirm kills with provided you are unwilling to just bail and leave them laying there. Not just a knife though since you wouldn't want to get too close if they are armed, so perhaps throwing spear, bow or even hypothetically a crossbow (provided laws becoming void).
Thoughts?

That would be dependent on the situation. If we were allowed EDC/CCW in Aust (good luck unless SFFP gets a majority government) then a sidearm for every day situations would be best, easy to move and action in tight spaces like an urban environment. Long guns are best suited for open field warfare where you have a few more seconds reaction time/sniping positions.

Yeh...if you have a crossbow, spear or bow and someone else has a gun and wishes you harm Id say you or someone with you is going to lose...seriously...
And rule 2...the point is get accurate rounds in the air and on target...surving the event is the goal NOT how many rounds are left (refer rule 7); if youve got none after the event then get a bow!...
Real bumscrunching urban combat is NOT like the movies (actually not all movies; Saving Private Ryan or BlackHawk Down spring to mind) and you seriously want to be sure if someone has unleashed on you, when you reply he will never ever ever be in a position to comeback for a second outing!

Nope...pistols are seriously seriously only defensive...honestly as someone who is/was lethal in combat training and in actual events (im trying to simplify/shorten the language here) with any pistol at any range up to 25m Id take a long arm (rifle or shotgun) everytime over a pistol... The ballistics alone speak volumes without getting down to combat nittygritty of slippery sweaty hands or similar distractions...

26 - Bring hand grenades. Bullets don't go down holes or around corners. 27 - carry a box of matches. If you're lucky to be upwind ... burn them out of cover and/or withdraw under smoke. 28 - cars are NOT cover. They are concealment. Even against a .22 rimfire.

In regards to that I meant if you shot someone and they are laying there immobile but you can never be sure, so then using something reusable to confirm the kill. Not running into a gunfight with a bow since that would not end well, but having something reusable to supplement your arms for different circumstances. But yeah, good points.

Pistols provide the element of surprise. If your opponent thinks you are unarmed they may be less tactically proficient than they otherwise might be. Hmmm...Id be wanting body armour like an Abrahms Tank to offer that opportunity to a possible assailant... And the pistol thing...element of surprise?...seriously? If they have their shit wired then you were covered at the moment your seen so blam!...oh id admit pistols can be quick, as are hands, and knives etc...its the getting up that close that bugs the bejesus outta me lol...

True then...hairspray and a lighter then? A large stick?
Or maybe just an image thing? I.E If you act professional and deport yourself professionally and are appropriately professionally tooled up...you may only have to put a cap in the leader...

In a running fight, the guy in the best physical condition lives. If a guy is running from you, you can catch him. If you're running from a guy, he can't catch you. Advice from Drill Instructor Staff Sergeant Goodsen, Parris island
