That would be dependent on the situation. If we were allowed EDC/CCW in Aust (good luck unless SFFP gets a majority government) then a sidearm for every day situations would be best, easy to move and action in tight spaces like an urban environment. Long guns are best suited for open field warfare where you have a few more seconds reaction time/sniping positions. Nope...pistols are seriously seriously only defensive...honestly as someone who is/was lethal in combat training and in actual events (im trying to simplify/shorten the language here) with any pistol at any range up to 25m Id take a long arm (rifle or shotgun) everytime over a pistol... The ballistics alone speak volumes without getting down to combat nittygritty of slippery sweaty hands or similar distractions... Hmmm ... might be more to this Pion. I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I think in civilian circumstances many people get unexpectedly shot at very close range with pistols. At least in places where pistols are easy to get. So they must be a useful tool for taking care of business in some circumstances?

This is true...more get stabbed unexpectedly as well...if it is a shtf situation Id certainly not be walking up to anyone I didnt know with an expectation of them showing me the love...hence a long arm 'cause the further away the better...
As a choice a handgun is great if nothing else is available...
Incidentally have you ever watched any Youtube shite of Police interaction in handgun shootings...it isnt usually very pretty...however if you look at Police shootings where shotguns or rifles are involved theyre usually over pretty quick...its really all about the 'slow is smooth, smooth is fast' doctorine; long arms tend to cause shooters to behave in a fashion controlled by the shape of the weapon, handguns likewise EXCEPT so many variables jump into play because of the very flexibility of the weapon...
